Runners
Physical Demands
Running is a high-impact repetitive activity where each step places forces up to three times body weight through the feet, legs, hips, and lower back. Strong muscles are required to absorb shock, control movement, and propel the body forward efficiently. When strength, mobility, or training load is not well balanced, stress builds up in tendons, joints, and bones, often leading to overuse injuries such as shin splints, knee pain, Achilles problems, and stress fractures.
Common Running Injuries
-
Shin splints
-
Runner’s knee
-
Achilles tendinopathy
-
Plantar fasciitis
-
Stress fractures
-
IT band syndrome
Growth-Related Injuries in Young Runners
-
Sever’s disease (heel pain)
-
Osgood-Schlatter disease
-
Stress reactions in bones
-
Muscle strains during growth spurts
